Psychiatry

Psychiatry is a medical field specialized to diagnose and to treat mental health problems and disorders, using a range of clinical tools, as well as prescription of medication. An appointment with a psychiatrist is focused on clinical assessment of patient’s problems and symptoms, in order to provide a diagnosis and treatment plan based upon patient’s specific needs.

What is the difference between psychiatrist and clinical psychologist?

Both psychiatrist and psychologist are medical professionals working in the field of mental health. A psychiatrist is a licensed physician who can prescribe medication, whereas psychologist cannot do that.
A clinical psychologist has gone through excessive therapeutic training and can refer the patient to see a psychiatrist - in case the patient requires medication.

How do I know when to see a psychiatrist?

If you have been suffering from ongoing mental health symptoms, we advise you to see a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are able to establish the need for psychological or pharmacological treatment and make a recommendation based on thorough assessment. You can also see the psychiatrist if you wish to discuss your current medication for various reasons or you simply need a follow-up visit.

What does a clinical assessment look like?

When you make an appointment with a psychiatrist, the session will start with an initial assessment of your problems. Psychiatrists use the so called bio-psycho-social model of mental health problems. This means analysing biological, psychological and social circumstances - important factors that play a significant role in patient's life. The psychiatrist asses the patient within this context, creating a unique clinical picture of patient’s experience. This assessment includes psychiatric examination followed by making a diagnosis and offering a personalised treatment plan. This might be a medication, a referral to see a psychologist or both.

What types of disorders psychiatrist can help with?

Psychiatrists deal not only with mental disorders, such as anxiety, depressive disorders or psychotic disorders, but also with stress-related mental health problems, burn-out syndrome and others.

PSYMED approach

Our fast-paced modern world creates health issues caused by environmental stressors and psychological factors that interact with individual vulnerabilities and cause bodily symptoms and diseases that affect client's work, relationships and their life in general.

PSYMED is an interdisciplinary platform of medical professionals that was established to remedy limitations of traditional disjointed approach to healthcare that views mind, body and spirit as separate. Our typical patient usually experience discomfort, hopping from one doctor to another, going through multiple examinations, but leaving the doctor's office without having a clear diagnosis or recommended treatment. Patients often feel dismissed, helpless, hopeless, left out and are trying all kinds of possible alternative approaches on their own.

PSYMED covers this gap in healthcare system by using a complex approach based on bio-psycho-social integration.
